The Puppy Mill Years edition by Tara Couture Glen Couture Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews
This book really brings to light the reality many animals are born into. It is descriptive to the point that you feel as if you are there in the thick of things.
Rather disappointed in this book, have read others that actually show action taken and provide real resources of how to help at the end. I feel for the predicament the author was in. Stay and see the hotel every day, praying you are able to help these dogs in a small way, or leave and wonder how much worse it got after she left. I truly feel for the pain that situation must have caused both at the time and probably the rest of her life.
I applaude that she and her husband do take in rescue dogs with problems rather than buying purebreds. It's not easy with the dogs with problems, everyday is hard, not everyone can do it. She also in outages people who want a pet to go look for a rescue or a backyard mutt instead of a pet store. Good advice, these dogs snuggle and love you just as much as an a dog with papers, it's not like your pet can read right?
That being said, couldn't she have at least talked to SOMEONE about getting this place on the radar of the state? Couldn't she have at least gotten them concerned enough to do an inspection? At least tried? I also find it odd that the husband appeared to support her staying, rather than trying to help solve the problem.
Most of the story she is either justifying her actions of staying and not turning them in, or trying to use a clever analogy. Plenty of references on how they are struggling to make a living like most of us, to the point that I feel like this book was only written to make a buck (well many really). It did not feel like the book was written to actually help stop the atrocity of puppy mills. There are many much better books on the puppy mill problem and how to stop it. Many with proceeds going to help support the rescues as well. I just can't recommend this book.
I do give it two stars because I did feel very sorry for the author having to go through what she did, and the bad memories she will always carry.
This book is so gripping, I read it in one sitting!! How true it is. I too live in the country (8.8 acres)This is a nice suburb, however the way these lover's treat their so called "Pets"is very DISTURBING, @ best. One such owner, (dogs tied outside, in OHIO weather 24/7/365) The owner said I was never to take her dogs off her prop. again! She felt. Violated w/ "her protection" off their leashes! I have offered to buy these 2 from them, or pay installation,& 1st 6 mo of monitoring. They will not budge. One dog has to stay. Their living conditions are deplorable. They have so much love to, & I to receive. Any suggestions.?? ( they get along w/ my dog. Whom I stole from a junkyard 6yrs ago. People just suck. So many consider their so called Pets as another piece in their collection of junk. So much abuse exists in too many forms. Any suggestions out there on how to save these two up my street?? They are old, have done their service & so deserve to live out their remainder of life, Happy, free to roam, well fed, comfortable,& at an indoor temp opposite outdoors temp. Relaxed & car rides they so love. When I visit them, they long 2 sit in my car. Sooo Sad! It kills me to drive by.
I will spread the word as I always have since I found that info out.
This story was very sad but I feel it needed to be told. I feel this was therapy for the author's.
