What a Ghoul Wants A Ghost Hunter Mystery Victoria Laurie Books
Kindwella Castle in Wales is haunted by a long dead lady known as the Grim Widow, who has over the centuries pulled people death by drowning them in the castle's moat.Half of the castle has now been turned into a hotel, with the other half left alone as that is where the Grim Widow is supposed to live.
MJ and her Ghost Getter crew shows up to try and determine if the legend is true and if they can get some good film of the ghosts. Things turn out bad from the beginning when the night desk clerk that welcomed them to the castle turns up drowned in the moat.
As more bodies appear, it's up to MJ to not only try to locate the Grim Widow but to determine if all of this is being done by a ghost, or is there a real life human behind most of the recent murders.

Highlighs:
As usual, I love the character of MJ, she seemed a little subdued at the beginning of the story, but came back at the end.
You get to know some of the crew a little better, and I really like the police officer running the local investigation.
The main story of the Grim Widow was really quite scary, if not a little overboard - the story is 4 stars
I hate to say this, but Heath spends a good part of the beginning of the story in the hospital. Since I can't stand this guy, it's always an improvement when he's not in it much.
*
Lowlights:
If you read my reviews for the previous books, the thing I can't stand is the character of Heath. Not only does he not bring anything different (he has the same powers as MJ - and just having him be able to see different people than she does is not really helpful or interesting). But as I stated in my review of the last book, this guy is always doing something stupid to get hurt, or injured, and them making MJ and the other people risk their lives to save him. So him getting injured at the beginning of the book and ending up in the hospital seems normal, and an added pleasure of not having him in the book for awhile.
Which brings us to number two: MJ and Heath's romance. Are these two in high school? I don't find anything romantic about them. They seem to be a couple just because they are the lead male and female character in the book. Her constantly calling him her boyfriend gets irritating.
Sam - Heath's grandfather and MJ's spirit guide. I like Sam, but I just find him a useless character. He never tells MJ anything that will help her, he can't even watch out for the evil spirit to warn her if it's coming her way while she searches a room, until it's almost too late. Since he can wander around, why doesn't he just tell her where the portal is, and what's going on with these other murders?
The story actually reminds me too much of Ghouls Ghouls Ghouls - Ghost Hunters # 5. And I have the same questions. Is this the 21st century. A Ghost that kills this many people, always appears when people come around and the hotel isn't jammed packed with ghost hunters. Where are the photo's where is the film, where are the camera phones.
SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT

Heath almost getting drowned by the widow is another instance where he almost gets himself killed and endangers MJ. For the rest of the book he is once again useless.
I'm glad Gilly found someone, maybe it will take his mind off himself for a little while.

This isn't a spoiler alert for this book, but for the synopsis of the next book. It appears that Dr. Steve is going to hire MJ to do a ghost hunt on his "fiancee".
The author has been making disparaging comments about Dr. Steve in the last couple books and I think this one is to put the nail in the coffin on the idea of them ever getting back together.
I predict - MJ and Dr. Steve will have a re-occurence of their romance, She will be conflicted, he will turn out to be a jerk and she'll go off happily with Heath in the end.
I'm not sure I want to read this book, I think I'll go back and reread the first ones. Their romance had 100 times the sparks that lack so glaringly with the romance with Heath.

What a Ghoul Wants A Ghost Hunter Mystery Victoria Laurie Books Reviews
I have followed author Victoria Laurie's writing from her first book. She is an excellent psychic in real life, as well as showing 'lay people' the process of the metaphysical. She has done so beautifully.
She now has three separate book series, and as an author going into the latter part of finishing my first adult novel, I applaud she can write all series as the pro she is. I am proud of her.
This outing of the Ghost Hunter Series, M.J., Heath, her Native American boyfriend and psychic, Gilly, M.J.'s best friend from childhood, who is a techie wizard and company go to a castle in Wales that has an evil lady ghost who drowns victims and possesses their souls.
While the sightings and close calls with this Lady and the gang escalate, the head of the film team wants more action or else the network may cancel their series.
M.J. Is more concerned about the people who are trapped, and sets about a way to do that.
This book is the best of the series, and the paranormal activity is more intense than previous books. The participants have close calls and we, the readers who care, feel the emotions Ms. Laurie guides us to feel.
This is Ghost Hunter Mysteries 202---it gives us more insight to the Other Side, and also shows us there are evil entities that mean harm.
The series has grown up and I look forward to the next book of the series.
An excellent read!
Ellen George, author and reviewer
You have to appreciate the evolution that this series has undertaken. From the farcical first books that were more Scooby-do than mystery to book number six (Ghoul Interrupted) where there was a decided turn in the feel and tone of the books to the latest installment – that still has a few elements of previous absurdity but is much more enjoyable.
Once you get past the fact that Gilley has things that weird him out to the mutual understanding that oversized sweatshirts packed with magnets will ward off angry spirits, you settle down into an enjoyable paranormal involving the Grim Widow of Kidwella Castle in northern Wales.
The Ghouls Getters TV show has been invited to check out the haunted goings on at the castle, but when strange encounters begin on their very first night, the team must reanalyze if the near death of one of their own is worth it.
The Grim Widow is a nasty entity, she has been blamed for endless drownings in the moat, but the team must decide if she is the only one responsible for the bodies that are beginning to pile up. As the body count rises, the team wants to high tail it out of there, but contractual obligations hold them there until there is enough film footage or the widow and her demonic cohort is finally entombed.
As the story concludes, there is an interesting twist as to what a spirit will do to protect the living, that chains are only in your mind, and that love endures no matter the amount of time. I loved that final twist and the sacrifice that was made.
I still have no idea how to classify these books, they are not the heavy paranormal type nor are they a lightweight cozy, they are somewhere in between. As I have said, the reader has to be patient with the beginning of this series and not give up too soon - the characters are a work in progress and Ms. Laurie is slowly bringing the nonsensical into the realm of entertainingly absurd.
